Snuggle up, it’s storytime! We’re delighted to announce the publication of our very first Ooni children’s book, “Jo and the Dough” and a T-shirt giveaway featuring its characters!
Through whimsical illustrations sure to captivate the minds of kids and adults alike, Jo and the Dough tells the story of Jo, an inquisitive young girl who, through a single impulsive act, accidentally brings her pizza dough to life. Fortunately, her friend Dough Monster is happy to help get the pizza party started, and in no time at all, he’s leading her on a fast-paced romp through the neighborhood to collect ingredients.
Here’s how the book came to be: Ooni co-founder and co-CEO Darina Garland was preparing pizza with her two young sons when imagination took over. As the boys excitedly speculated about the rising dough — “Yeast is ALIVE?!” — Darina was struck by a story idea that would bring their game of ‘What If’ to life.
Darina teamed up with her Ooni colleague, illustrator Edith Ault, and after months of hard work, the fantastical dough-based adventures of an inquisitive girl named Jo and her surprise friend, Dough Monster, is available on ooni.com!
Jo and the Dough includes an exclusive, child-friendly how to recipe for Neapolitan-style dough, so your family can recreate the magic at home with a pizza party of your own.
All profits from Jo and the Dough will go to Young Minds, the leading charity providing mental health support to UK children and youths. Since Darina and Kristian Tapaninaho, her husband and Ooni co-founder, both turned 40 in 2021, they’ve set a goal of raising £40,000 for this vital cause through book sales and other campaigns.
